I visited Kristen Schiele in her studio last week and was very excited by what I saw there. Kristen uses a really interesting combination of acrylic, collage, shadow-boxing, and screen-printing in her pieces. The variety of each piece keeps the eye moving, and often gives each piece many (literal as well as figurative or emotional) layers of meaning. There is also an off-kilter sense about her pieces, due to her use of space, patterns, and asymmetrical canvases or framing.
Kristen recently had a show, Spirit Girls at La Magnus gallery on the Lower East Side. You can check out an interview with her about the show, as well as her work and process here at Eyes Towards the Dove.
